Almost every Holdem poker game can have a strategy. One must work out a strategy that will help you win the game. Unfortunately, not all strategies work.

When planning a strategy there are many factors that need to be considered. One factor is the number of players, and how mild or aggressive the players at the table are. You'll need to be more careful in larger games. Another factor is your bank balance. You will want to play extremely carefully and select a hand very cautiously if you have a bank balance of only a few dollars.

We spend very little time in thinking and planning the game away from the table, as all of our time goes into playing. One often-overlooked point is to know our own strengths and limitations. Little errors can add up, and when the games are tougher these smallest of errors can turn the tables on us and change us from the winning position to the losing. So instead of haphazardly playing, we must learn strategy that could be to our advantage.

You must always keep in mind that playing every hand does not necessarily make you a winner. You need to be selective in your play and your cards. You need to play fewer but better hands then your opponents. For this you need to take calculated and well-planned risks and back them strongly. You must wait for the right cards, and when you have them, you must go for the jugular.

So is this game just a matter of making the right moves and avoiding others in order that a win is ensured? It is not so simple after all. The best player is the one who is able to understand his opponents mind and figure out his weaknesses and his strengths. This isn't easy, but this is what makes the great players.
